Welcome to the National Organization for Women, Starkville Chapter.

NOW is a multi issue social justice organization. We take direct action to bring about progressive feminist change. Our six top priority issues are:

• Promoting Diversity and Ending Racism – Because everyone’s voice needs to be heard
• Winning LGBT Rights – Because homophobia and transphobia violate everyone’s civil rights
• Reproductive Justice – Because our bodies, sex lives, and pregnancy decisions should be our own
• Constitutional Equality – Because it’s 2009 and the constitution still doesn’t recognize women as equal. Are you kidding?
• Economic Equity – Because we still don’t have equal pay for equal work
• Ending Violence Against Women – Because 1 out of every 6 of us will experience sexual violence

But we deal with lots of other issues, too. NOW chapters take action on issues from environmentalism to disAbility rights, to free speech and everything in between.
NOW’s purpose is to take action to bring women into full participation in the mainstream of American society. It’s like Audre Lorde said: “Your silence will not protect you” and being quiet about sexism, racism, classism, and all other forms of social injustice won’t make them go away.
